A song of walls and frontage

Stuff is happening. Thank heavens for the lads.

First up - let’s talk about progress with the FRONTAGE.

Ben has been cracking on with restoring the face of the building. Starting with the panelling, which was like butter. Like butter, I tell ye:

Tired shop frontage with water damage. Rotting timber panels

Just crap.

There’s a bit of a problem with condensation build up inside the space, it rolls off the windows then gets right into the timber. Hoping that it’ll resolve when I’m regularly heating the space?? For now, let’s crack on with it:

Carpenter replaces the frontage on an old printers.

He’s a good lad.

And here’s a shot of the beautiful base coat:

Proper tidy.

There’s more to be said about this frontage once it’s properly finished. Watch this space, my dudes.

Now. Uncovering the exhibition wall:

History of the building showing on the old mortar hanging to a stone wall.

On the right side as you go in there’s this lovely big stone wall that was (until yesterday) covered in really old mortar. The type that’s packed with animal hair. It was practically hanging off - but nonetheless was a mammoth job removing it:

Standing in a pile of lime mortar which we've chipped off the stone

And there’s absolutely no way I could have managed it without this dude. Steve. He just shows up every week and cracks on - and this was a mega one. Proper labour intensive. Nearly cried watching that last bit of mortar fall.

Onist. He’s a true one.

So what’s next for this bit? It needs cleaning up a bit more, then repointing with fresh lime - that’ll be a whole adventure of it’s own but I’ve had loads of advice from Steve (from the garden) and Andy (the framer.)

If I can nail this, maybe I can finally sort my own house out.

More soon.

For now… PUB.

PS. Shout out to Neil for the PPE <3
